My Love Is Like to Ice

我的爱人像块冰

My love is like to ice, and I to fire:

我的爱人像冰，我就像火

How comes it then that this her cold so great

我的热望如此炽烈，为何

Is not dissolved through my so hot desire,

却无法融化她冰样的冷, 

But harder grows the more I her entreat?

恳求越切，她越冷酷坚硬?

Or how comes it that my exceeding heat

Is not allayed by her heart-frozen cold,

But that I burn much more in boiling sweat,

And feel my flames augmented manifold?

What more miraculous thing may be told, 

可还有什么比这更神奇：

That fire, which all things melts, should harden ice,

无所不化的火，烧硬了冰，

And ice, which is congeal's with senseless cold,

而那在酷寒中凝结的冰，  

Should kindle fire by wonderful device?

却能奇妙地把烈火燃起？

Such is the power of love in gentle mind,

温柔的心中这爱的力量，

That it can alter all the course of kind.

埃德蒙·斯宾塞（Edmund Spenser，1552年－1599年1月13日），英国文艺复兴时期的伟大诗人。其代表作有长篇史诗《仙后》，田园诗集《牧人月历》，组诗《情诗小唱十四行诗集》、《婚前曲》、《祝婚曲》等。

诗人把恋人比作寒冰,把自己比作烈火。愈是靠近,两者竟然一反常态:火更热而冰更寒。在诗人看来,两个高尚的心灵碰撞到一起所产生的神力,可以把乾坤倒转。原作为抑扬格五音步莎士比亚式十四行诗体。
