Tune: “Sand of Silk-washing Stream”
I went to the Rocky Pool to give thanks for rain and composed the following five stanzas on my way. The Pool is 20 li east of Xuzhou. Strange to say, its water rises or falls with River Si and turns clear or muddy like the river.
Date-flowers fall in showers on my hooded head,
At both ends of the village wheels are spinning thread,
A straw-cloak’d man sells cucumber ‘neath a willow tree.
Wine-drowsy when the road is long, I yawn for bed;
Throat parched when the sun is high, I long for tea.
I knock at a door to see what they can give me.
