We wearthe mask that grins and lies,

It hidesour cheeks and shades our eyes,

This debtwe pay to human guile;

And mouthwith myriad subtleties.

Why shouldthe world be overwise,

世人怎能分外颖语，

Incounting all our tears and sighs?

将我们的涕泪与叹息细数？

Nay, letthem only see us, while

不！我们戴着面具之际，

We wearthe mask.

唯有假面可以让人一睹。

We smile,but, O great Christ, our cries

我们在微笑，然而伟大的主啊，

To theefrom tortured souls arise.

We sing,but oh the clay is vile

Beneathour feet, and long the mile;
